Summer Turkey Burgers
Summer calls for burgers. But sometimes a burger feels a bit too unhealthy. You want to grill with friends but want something lighter and fresher in the dense summer heat. Enter… the Summer Turkey Burger. A healthy take on a summer classic.
I provide recipes for two servings, but feel free to double (or triple!) the recipe if you’re hosting a larger group
Serving Size: 2
The Patty
1 tablespoon of jalapeño
1 table spoon of red onion
1 package of ground turkey
2 tablespoons of ketchup
Salt & Pepper
Oil - for stovetop cooking
The Decorum:
Lettuce - we like to use lettuce for our buns, but you can use a traditional hamburger bun
4 rings of red onion - for decoration
Directions:
Dice the jalapeño and red onion into small pieces until you have about 1 tablespoon’s worth of each - you don’t want any big chunks in your burger. Place into a large mixing bowl. Add two ‘squirts’ (about two tablespoons) of ketchup to the mixing bowl. Add your ground turkey and a couple pinches of salt and pepper. Mix all ingredients well.
Separate the mixture into 2 or 3 patties. Make sure your patties aren’t too thick as this will alter cooking time.
Stovetop Cooking:
Open your apartment windows because it’s about to get smoky! Heat a few drizzles of oil on a large pan. Add your patties to the oil. Let them cook for 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip over. And let them cook for 4-5 minutes on the other side.
Prep a bed of lettuce on your plate, plop your turkey burgers down on top, decorate with a couple of red onion rings, and enjoy!
